Senior/Lead Backend Engineer

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced backend engineer to take ownership of core systems at Neverless. The ideal candidate is an engineer who thinks in systems, writes code they are proud of, and thrives in an environment where the quality of what you build directly impacts the financial lives of real users.

Key Responsibilities

You will design, build, and scale the backend infrastructure that powers Neverless — from trading execution to regulatory reporting, from user accounts to asset custody.

• Architecting and evolving large-scale distributed systems that handle high-throughput financial transactions
• Owning the reliability, performance, and security of core backend services
• Setting up and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, automated monitoring, and observability tooling
• Partnering with product and compliance teams to implement features that meet both user needs and regulatory requirements
• Establishing and championing engineering best practices — clean code, TDD, code review, and documentation
• Contributing to technical decision-making and helping shape the engineering culture as the team scales

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience
• 4+ years of Java development experience
• Experience architecting large-scale complex systems and handling non-functional requirements like performance, reliability, and security
• Strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and concurrency programming
• Experience setting up CI/CD pipelines and automated monitoring
• Practice of clean coding and TDD with a strong belief that testing is integral to high-quality software development
• Fluency in English

Nice to Have

• Proficiency in Rust
• Professional experience writing and deploying blockchain smart contracts
